Ronnie Sandoval died in the San Diego Central Jail in February 2014 from a methamphetamine overdose. He was left unmonitored for eight hours despite showing signs of medical distress, and the jail’s medical staff failed to promptly summon paramedics when he was found unresponsive.
Recently, a federal jury awarded his family $1.8 million, holding the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s jail nursing staff responsible for failing to prevent his death.
